The Soar Foundation will be partnering with Redmond, Inc. and Eagle Condor to sponsor an expedition to Peru this winter.  We will be leaving Salt Lake City on Friday, January 29 and returning on Monday, February 8, 2016.

The Expedition has room for 15 full-time Redmond associates and about 10 other adult non-associates — family, friends and business partners.

Service Project

ocotuan-wheelbarrowVolunteers will improve access to water for a small community located near Cusco, Peru. The 4-day service project will be physically challenging — hard work at 11,000 feet above sea level. We’ll be using picks and shovels to dig long water line trenches, dig and build latrines.

The high elevation will be a challenge! If swinging a pick at 11,000 feet doesn’t sound like your cup of tea, you will want to wait for another opportunity.

Deadlines and Commitment Fee

Full-time Redmond associates interested in the expedition have until September 8 to sign up. If you are selected in the drawing, your non-refundable commitment fee of $500 is due by October 1. (The Soar Foundation will sponsor the balance of your trip cost — about $3,000 more.) Associates need to use 6 vacation days (or paid Soar Time) for this trip.

Opportunities for Non-Associates

Spouses or other non-associates can join the expedition, but Soar Foundation sponsorship isn’t available. Non-associates selected for the trip are responsible for the full cost of the trip ($3,500) with a non-refundable commitment fee of $1,000 due October 1st. The remaining $2,500 is due December 1st.

Passports and Language

All travelers will need a current passport, but we will have translators available, so no Spanish is required.

Tourism

At the end of the week, we will spend two days touring and hiking among the Machu Picchu ruins, an ancient Incan civilization inhabited in the 15th Century and not discovered until 1911.  It’s amazingly beautiful and an incredible setting, high in the Andes.
